Home Services Roof Repairs

Roof repairs and leak tracing

Roof repairs across London and Surrey. Slipped slates, leaks, storm damage and failed flashing put right, usually in a single visit. Free no obligation quotes.

In short

Most leaks are not the roof failing, they are one part of it failing: a slipped slate, a cracked mortar joint, or flashing that has lifted away from a chimney. We find where the water is actually getting in rather than sealing over the nearest suspicious looking thing, and most repairs are done in one visit.

Signs you need roof repairs

  • A damp patch or a tide mark on an upstairs ceiling
  • Slates or tiles on the ground after wind
  • Water tracking down a chimney breast inside the house
  • Mortar crumbling out of the ridge or the verges
  • Gutters overflowing at the same spot every time it rains hard
  • A musty smell in the loft, or insulation that feels damp

What the job involves

Find where the water is really coming in

Water runs along timbers before it drops, so the stain on the ceiling is rarely under the hole. We trace it back rather than guessing.

Tell you what it needs, plainly

If it is a genuine repair we say so. If the roof is near the end and a repair only buys you a season, we say that too, and you can decide.

Do the repair properly

Slates fixed the way they were meant to be fixed, not clipped over. Failed mortar raked out and repointed. Flashing dressed in lead rather than sealed with mastic.

Check the rest while we are up there

It costs nothing to look at the other side of the roof while the ladder is against the wall, and it often saves a second call out.

Photographs and a tidy up

You see what was wrong and what was done, and the ground is left clear.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you come out for a leak?

It depends what else we have on that week, but a leak goes to the front of the queue over a job that can wait. Call or message and you will get an honest answer rather than a date we cannot keep.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Quotes are free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Can you work in bad weather?

Some work can be made safe temporarily in the wet, but a proper repair needs a dry roof and dry mortar. We will tell you honestly which one you are getting on the day.

Is it worth repairing an old roof or should I replace it?

It depends what we find. A sound roof with a failed detail is worth repairing. A roof that is losing slates from every slope because the nails have rusted through is money down the drain. We will give you both numbers and let you choose.

What can I do before you arrive?

If water is coming in, move what you can out of the way and put a bucket under it. Do not go up on the roof yourself in the wet. If a tile has come off and it is safe to do so, a photograph from the ground helps us bring the right thing with us.
