Feltham, Hanworth and Bedfont are mostly inter-war and post-war housing on concrete and clay tile, with a lot of single-storey extensions. Porous tiles, moss, shallow pitches and tired flat roofs.
Feltham grew substantially after the war and much of Hanworth and Bedfont with it, so concrete interlocking tile dominates. Those tiles do not slip the way clay does, they go porous, take on moss and get heavy, and on the shallower pitches used in post-war building that means water sitting where it should be running. The result is damp in the roof space rather than a dramatic leak, and it often gets blamed on condensation when it is actually the covering. There is inter-war clay-tiled stock mixed in around Whitton and the older Feltham streets with the usual ridge bedding problems. Flat roofs are everywhere here, on extensions, garages and porches, and stripping those back to the deck is a large part of what we do locally.
