Iver is where we are based, so it is the area we get to quickest. The village mixes older cottages and canal-side property with 1930s and post-war housing, which means anything from lime pointing and natural slate to a straightforward tile repair.
Iver is our own village, so most weeks we are working within a couple of miles of the yard. The older part around the High Street and St Peter's has genuinely old property, some of it in soft brick and stone that needs lime rather than cement, and chimney stacks that have taken a century of weather off the open ground to the south. Around Richings Park and Iver Heath the stock is largely 1930s semi-detached with hipped clay-tiled roofs, and those roofs are now at the age where the mortar-bedded ridges and hips let go and the tile nibs start to fail. Along the Grand Union there is a lot of single-storey extension with flat roofs that were felted decades ago and are well past it.
