Nothing on those buildings is square, which is exactly why they need doing by hand rather than to a pattern. The brickwork is soft and wants lime pointing; hard cement on it accelerates the damage rather than stopping it. Riverside property also gets more damp and more tree cover than the streets a few hundred yards inland, so moss and blocked gutters are constant. Around Spring Grove and towards Osterley the stock turns to Victorian villas and inter-war semis, where the work is more conventional slate and tile repair.
