Weybridge is large detached property with elaborate roofs, particularly around Oatlands and St Georges Hill. Deep valleys, multiple hips, dormers, tile hanging and a great deal of leadwork.
Weybridge, and especially Oatlands and St Georges Hill, is substantial individually designed housing where no two roofs are quite the same. Multiple hips meeting deep valleys, dormers, tile-hung elevations and often more than one chimney stack mean the roof has a lot of junctions, and junctions are where water gets in. Most of what we are called to here is leadwork rather than tiling: valley linings split along the fold, secret gutters that have filled and overflowed inwards, and back gutters behind stacks that were undersized from the start. Much of the original clay tile on these houses is still sound and worth keeping. Towards Byfleet and Walton the stock becomes more conventional twentieth-century tiled housing.
