Ruislip is classic Metroland: 1930s semis with hipped clay-tiled roofs, tile-hung gables and bay windows. Those roofs are ninety years old now, and the ridges, hips and bay tops are where they fail.
Ruislip is about as pure an example of 1930s Metroland as you will find, and the roofs have a signature set of problems. The main slopes are hipped and clay-tiled, and the mortar that beds the ridge and hip tiles has done its ninety years and is now hollow or cracked right along the run. The gables are often tile-hung, and those hanging tiles come loose in wind before the roof does. Then there are the bay windows: almost every one has its own small lead or felt roof, and those bay tops are the most common leak we get called to in this area by a distance. Ickenham and Eastcote are the same stock and the same list of jobs.
