Northwood and especially Moor Park were built as spacious, individually designed housing, and the roofs are far more involved than the semis a mile away. A single house might have four or five hips, two or three valleys, dormers and more than one stack. Water almost never gets in through the middle of a slope on these houses, it gets in where two planes meet, so the work is leadwork: relining valleys that have split along the fold, clearing and re-forming secret gutters, and rebuilding back gutters behind chimney stacks that were undersized when they were built. A lot of the original clay tile is still perfectly sound, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a re-roof you do not need.
