Maidenhead runs from Victorian villas near the town centre out to large inter-war and modern housing. Slate, clay tile and a lot of flat-roofed extension work, plus the riverside property at Cookham and Bray.
The older Maidenhead streets have Victorian and Edwardian villas roofed in Welsh slate, and after well over a century what fails is rarely the slate itself but the nails holding it, which is why you get slips appearing one after another across a slope. That is usually the point at which a re-roof makes more sense than another repair. Further out, Furze Platt and the inter-war estates are clay and concrete tile with mortar-bedded ridges coming loose. Towards Cookham, Bray and the river the property gets older and larger again, often with substantial stacks and valleys, and tree cover that keeps slopes damp.
